Miguel, a native of Caracas, Venezuela, has always been passionate about two things: his family and surfing. He seized every opportunity to escape the city and hit the waves. At the age of 23, seeking a brighter future for himself and his loved ones, Miguel left Venezuela and settled in Costa Rica, which has since become his home.

At 27, Miguel’s curiosity and creativity lead him to learn the art of surfboard shaping. Shortly after, MAAR Custom Surfboards was born. Every day, he strives to refine his skills and perfect his art.

Miguel's philosophy towards shaping mirrors his approach to surfing— finding joy and creativity in every aspect. He crafts each board with the customer’s specific desires, goals, and needs in mind, ensuring they express themselves and have fun on the waves.
